About Me
I have heard many people say they want to be successful. Of course, that is a laudable goal, but what does it really mean? I believe that success has many translations, and they are based on the individual and their experiences. Does success translate to being accepted into college, maintaining a strong GPA, and securing a job immediately upon graduation? Well, as a young man from a tough background in Philadelphia, my definition of success included more than achieving those goals. I believe that my personal success is building and maintaining my character; one that is self-sufficient, persistent, and committed, and that I act with integrity and lead by example. This has always been my philosophy despite growing up fatherless, living in a transient household of seven children in underprivileged and often violent communities. I knew that my circumstances required that I have a lot of grit and outside support from those who have already achieved a degree of success. I knew that I would need a strong circle around me. And I have been fortunate that throughout the years many teachers and counselors took on the roles of mentors, guides, advisors, and even parents. These relationships have helped me create a strong character and a solid sense of my future. And many of these relationships have extended beyond the norm, as I was unofficially adopted by my middle school counselor when my mother became absent from my life. It does take a village.
As a first-generation college student and a Hispanic male, I was intimidated about choosing a field of study. My circle of support was invaluable in helping me focus on an outcome that would play to my strengths and interests. Initially, I thought that I would be a teacher, since I had experience helping my siblings with their schoolwork so I entered college with hopes of teaching Mathematics. However, after much deliberation and thought, I realized that my passion and interest was business - understanding business cycles, analytics, and how products and projects were delivered.
My ultimate goal is to continue working for a company that shares my values; a culture that values family and close friendships, upholds integrity in the workplace, and appreciates and rewards hard work from its employees. My resume incorporates some of my official range of interests; data analytics, technology, and leadership. In addition, I am committed to my personal health. As an avid runner, I have participated in several marathons that benefitted cancer research. In addition, I have a passion for music and became a self-taught DJ at the age of 14, which allowed me to help support my family with my earnings from weddings, proms, dances, and fundraisers.
I am confident that I will continue to be an asset to my place of work, and I hope that my contributions will help improve performance and the organization’s bottom line. The quote, “the journey is more important than the destination,” rings true for me, and I know that my journey will continue to be filled with personal and professional growth. I am eager to continue building on my foundation, and I’m excited about my future endeavors.
